At FINNS Bali, our commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives continues to thrive. We’re excited to share our progress and achievements for the second quarter of 2024, demonstrating our ongoing dedication to sustainable practices and community engagement.
Local Community Engagement
At the heart of our efforts is a strong commitment to local community engagement. This quarter, our SoleFamily Outreach Program has been particularly active, conducting eight outreach programs across Bali, from Karangasem to Klungkung. Our team has been on the ground, fostering meaningful connections and providing essential support where it’s most needed.
Continuing our community-driven initiatives, our Kids Fun Day program brought joy to 45 children from Streets Kids-Bali Life Foundation, Dria Raba, and Suwung Community Center-Bali Life Foundation. Held at FINNS Recreation Club, it was a day filled with laughter and cherished memories.
FINNS Go Green
While we focus on social initiatives, we’re equally committed to environmental sustainability. Our FINNS Go Green program continues to make waves, with our weekly beach clean-ups. This quarter, 351 participants joined forces to 171.4 kg of organic waste and 337.24 kg of non-organic waste, preventing it from polluting our beautiful oceans. Moreover, our partnership with ChopValue, has allowed us to divert a total of 81kg of chopsticks from landfills, transforming them into useful products.
April 2024 marked the launch of our waste sorting facility, designed to significantly reduce landfill waste. By sorting waste at the source in every venue, we have achieved an 80% reduction in landfill waste from FINNS Beach Club – equivalent to 112 tons diverted from landfills in just three months. Our staff received comprehensive training to support this new system, ensuring its continuous success.
Our dedication to the environment was further highlighted on Earth Day, April 22, 2024. We marked this important day with a beach cleanup and tree planting event, bringing together FINNS staff, volunteers, local students, and residents. Together, we collected 305 kg of waste and planted 44 trees near Perancak Temple, Canggu, demonstrating the power of collective action in environmental conservation.
External Networking and Collaborations
Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond our own operations, as we actively engage with the wider community to share knowledge and inspire change. This quarter saw a number of collaborative activities that highlight our dedication to ESG principles.
In May, our ESG team toured Kevala Ceramic, learning about their innovative zero waste initiative that repurposes glass bottle waste from Sungai Watch. This experience, along with our attendance at the Sustainability Forum during the Ubud Food Festival – where we focused on food waste prevention and sustainable restaurant practices – provided us with valuable insights to enhance our own sustainability efforts at FINNS Bali.
We’ve also strengthened our community ties through meaningful partnerships. Our collaboration with Ragam Foundation to provide nutritious meals for underprivileged communities in Denpasar demonstrates our commitment to social responsibility. Additionally, we hosted Stella’s Child for a visit to our Waste Sorting Center, showcasing our waste management practices and inspiring the next generation of environmental stewards.
To further spread awareness and encourage sustainable practices in our business community, our ESG Department, in collaboration with the FINNS Business Community, organised an ESG seminar at FINNS Recreation Club. This event brought together local business owners and members, fostering discussions on the importance of ESG in business.
